Fishing pays Moneta directly
Birb's August 23 update replaced random Treasure rewards with immediate Moneta on successful catches. A catch now supplies the fish and its Moneta reward together. Old advice about repeatedly opening fishing Treasure or selling fish for Moneta can therefore point you toward the wrong activity.
Selling fish is a separate exchange: it grants Sunflower Seeds and requires the Fish Seeds upgrade. If your current goal is Moneta, distinguish the catch reward from the selling screen. If your goal is Seeds, check that upgrade and the fish you can safely part with before treating your inventory as disposable.
The change also retired junk and Treasure items, with older items converted into Moneta. An old inventory screenshot containing those items is useful as history, but it is not a shopping list for the current fishing loop.

Choose the reward you actually need
Start a fishing session by deciding whether you want currency, a particular species, a Fishdex discovery or an Aquarium donation. Those goals overlap, but a loadout that targets one species is easier to evaluate than one that is supposed to accomplish everything simultaneously.
| Goal | What to check first | What to avoid assuming |
|---|---|---|
| Moneta income | Your owned rod and catch reward | That selling a fish is the same reward |
| Sunflower Seeds | Fish Seeds upgrade and sale selection | That every valuable fish should be sold |
| A missing species | Fishdex location, bait and equipment recommendation | That every species appears at every fishing spot |
| Aquarium donation | Missing-donation filter and owned fish | That a Fishdex discovery means a fish is in inventory |
| A Shiny target | Relevant bait and current bonuses | That a higher chance guarantees a catch |
The developer says rod progression increases Moneta per catch. That is a reason to read the equipped rod's reward, not a complete profit ranking: catch speed, your target and a companion's loadout still need separate attention.
Use the Fishdex before changing equipment
September 26 improved the Fishdex's capture chances, equipment recommendations and filters. Use those tools to inspect the target rather than buying a hook just because it is later in a list. Updated hooks have rarity-specific bonuses, while lures can support progression, collection and Aquarium objectives.
Read the location and available recommendation for the fish you want. Then compare the recommendation with equipment you actually own and can equip. If a recommended hook is locked, inspect its Rod Tier, Evolution and Fishing Level requirements; the August update made those sequential requirements clearer.
This guide does not assign a universal best rod, hook or lure. A rarity bonus and a collection goal answer different questions. Change one part of the loadout at a time so that you can tell whether you solved an access problem or merely changed the mix of catches.

Bridge, Vigil Woods and Mythic fish
The September content update added fifteen fish to the Bridge and fifteen exclusive fish to Vigil Woods. A remaining blank in the Fishdex may therefore be a location problem rather than bad luck at the same spot. Inspect the entry and travel to its stated habitat when you can access it.
That update also introduced Mythic rarity and described its capture chances as extremely low. No exact current rate is supplied here. A rare target is a collection decision, not a reliable short-session income forecast, so separate a Mythic hunting session from a session where you need immediate currency.
Avoid importing a complete species or drop-rate table from an older version without checking it. The announced additions and the Fishdex's current display are more useful than an unsupported promise that a missing fish appears after a certain number of casts.
Protect catches before selling
Safe Sell protects locked fish, Shinies, accepted contracts and progression requirements according to the August update. Review those protections in the current sale screen and lock anything you have chosen to keep. Do not interpret a high sale value as proof that the fish has no other use.
Before clearing inventory, inspect pending donations and any parents you want for fish breeding. A Fishdex discovery survives Evolution, but the developer's reset list says fish inventory does not. Discovery, ownership and donation are three different states.
The October 2 update also lets you claim a Fish Market contract when all bonus slots are occupied by selecting an active bonus to replace. That is a replacement choice, not an extra unlimited bonus slot. Read the two bonuses before confirming which one you want to keep.
Seagulls and shiny bonuses need separate checks
Each Seagull can use its own rod and bait. The Current option follows Birb's equipped choice; a fixed companion loadout is deliberately independent. When a catch mix looks unexpected, inspect the companion cards as well as Birb's equipment. The Seagull loadout guide explains that distinction.
October 2 removed the old artificial Shiny-fish chance cap. Very large bonus stacks now taper through diminishing returns, while Moonlit and contract multipliers retain their full effects. More bonus is therefore not described as useless, but it also should not be turned into an invented linear formula.
Use the game's current preview for the available bonus and keep your collection objective explicit. Catching, selling, donating and breeding are separate decisions; keeping them separate makes the new fishing economy much easier to follow.
